Struggling with an Addiction in the Family

Do you have a son or daughter who is struggling with addiction? Here’s how to get them help.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs by States

Parents Speaking Out Against Addiction has been created to help families get help for their loved ones who have problems with addition to drugs, medications and alcohol. This website was created for parents because per the statistics at least 80% of the calls addiction services receive come from parents or relatives, not the addicts themselves as they are so disconnected from reality that they believe they do not need help even if they are in a bad or dangerous situation for themselves and/or others.

What you will find on PSOAA is information on addiction, treatment centers, options for treatment, legal resources, etc. You will also find resources on all types of rehabs, legal services and aftercare programs. We also have caring consultants that can guide you through your journey until the person is at a rehab center getting their life back. The whole sequence to get someone to treatment can be hard and adventurous but with the proper guidelines and advice, you will have the best chance of success.

We have a blog section on our website where families can get educated on the subject of addiction. If you have never been in that position, you really cannot understand what the addict is going through and you could even make the situation worst. The whole purpose is to get the person the help that they need. Get yourself educated on the subject.

    Can You Overdose on Marijuana?

The quick answer?  No.  Not really.  Well, this is to say that you cannot chemically overdose on marijuana, which is what is considered and thought of when people think of overdose, more often than not. Now, this is not to say that one cannot take so much marijuana over a condensed period of time that they experience a full on mental and cognizant shut down in their mind and in their thought processes.

Every week in our PSOAA guides we talk about some key aspect of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.  First we talk about a few statistics regarding addiction, and then we focus in on a key aspect of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction to get that idea well canvased and discussed so it does not get ignored or left by the wayside.  Today we are going to write about overdose on marijuana, a marijuana overdose and “how do you overdose on marijuana”.

At this point, there is really no doubt that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general is getting worse and worse in this country to the degree where there are lots of problems and difficulties and struggles that abound from these issues and crisis areas.  These are issues and problems that are getting worse and worse as the years go by, creating struggles and habits and issues and difficulties that are very terrifying and very worrisome to say the least.

Even with something like inhalants, of course again a parent’s main concern is that their son or daughter will end up overdosing on inhalants.  It does not happen often, but there certainly have been several recorded cases of people overdosing on inhalants.  It can cause sudden death, related to a special phenomena when the fumes hit the brain in some people.  Scientists and autopsy personnel still don't know exactly how an inhalant can kill a person, but its certainly happened before.

Inhalants.  As parents, one of the substances that we worry about the most for our kids are inhalants or inhalant abuse.  Though an inhalant overdose is unlikely to occur, it is still a possibility, and any chance of this happening is reason enough to do everything within our power to prevent this from happening ever.

Parents Speaking Out Against Addiction has studied the country’s current drug problem.  It’s not a pretty picture.  Our nation’s drug problem has been growing and getting progressively worse and worse with each passing year, showing us a grim and unpleasant picture to say the least.  The numbers, facts, and figures on this do not lie, and substance abuse is truly an epidemic in our country right now.  For example:

As parents, it is very natural and normal to experience fear and concern and worry for our children.  We constantly worry about our kids and whether or not they will grow up to be happy and successful and live rich and fulfilling lives.  Once we become parents and start having kids, our lives transition out of mere adulthood and into parenthood, and this is a very different experience entirely.  Now we are taking care of children and raising them and watching them grow.  We are taking care of these beautiful little humans, and we pledge ourselves to giving them a good upbringing and to raising them well.
