Drug & Alcohol Addiction Treatment Centers for Family members in Connecticut

Drug and alcohol addiction has swept up the Eastern seaboard in increasingly worrisome regularity.  The East coast has become a substance abuse nightmare, especially when it comes to heroin and other opiates.  Connecticut, in spite of their prevention efforts, has not been able to escape this problem.  For example:

  • Connecticut is one of the top ten states in the entire nation for dependence on illicit drugs amongst young adults aged 18 to 25.  This demographic also dies the most from substance abuse.
  • Heroin is the most commonly cited drug among primary drug treatment admissions in Connecticut, which is surprising as marijuana is the most commonly cited drug in other states.
  • As a direct consequence of drug use in the state, no less than 444 persons died in Connecticut in 2007. A number like this is compared to the number of persons in Connecticut who died from motor vehicle accidents (only 309) and firearms (only 149) also all in 2007.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Connecticut

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has labeled addiction as a medical crisis for Connecticut.  The state needs to make a big change soon before the problem gets any worse.  The key is rehabilitation.  To address the problem effectively, the state will have to get all of its addicts through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation programs and centers.  The sooner this happens, the sooner the state will be able to more successfully focus on drug prevention to stop the problem from coming up again.
