Is Your Loved One at Risk for a Sedative Overdose

Sadly, never before has the issue of addiction been as serious or as severe as it is now, and never before has there been as much cause for concern regarding it as there is now.  In 2015, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially labeled drug and alcohol abuse and addiction in the United States of America as being a full on epidemic. In the various “strata” if you will of problem classification, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction had never earned the title of epidemic before in our country until 2015.

Hallucinogen Overdose Prevention: How to Protect a Loved One

At Parents Speak Out Against Addiction, our goal for some time now has been to provide the best possible information and data to the family members and loved ones of drug and alcohol addicts.  We understand and we know just how bad drug and alcohol addiction can be for the family members and loved ones of addicts, and just how difficult life can be when people struggle with substance abuse habits and issues.

A lot of people do not know this but the effect that substance abuse has on the family members and loved ones of those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol is significant to say the least.  This is to say that substance abuse is often just as much of a problem for the family members and loved ones of addicts as it is for the addicts themselves.

  • Fentanyl Overdoses

Fentanyl overdoses are very common, more common per capita for those who take this drug than other drugs because fentanyl is simply so much stronger as drugs go, and is more potent and more likely to cause a death.  Fentanyl overdose symptoms are very much like overdose symptoms, only more pronounced.  For example, signs that one could be nearing a Fentanyl overdose death are signs like:

With all of the different types of substances that are abused in this day and age, the medical drugs are often the worst, based off of the negative and harsh effects that they cause on people in spite of the fact that they are made with the intention of helping people to triumph over even the most harsh and difficult of health problems.  Drug and alcohol abuse is a truly vicious and upsetting thing, and it is even more harsh and problematic when it is done with prescription drugs, particularly with very powerful prescription drugs like Fentanyl.

When we examine the level of awareness in this country on this point though, we can begin to see that drug and alcohol addiction is a strong unknown, and people just do not get just how harsh and difficult of an issue this really is right now.  When it is more closely examined though, people can really start to see just how difficult and how serious it is getting, and just how quickly it is getting serious too.  For some facts on it, consider the following:

  • When we examine just how many people die from drug and alcohol use and abuse in this country and at this time, we begin to see that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general is a pretty difficult issue to say the least. We can see that about twenty-three million Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol in this country.  What this means for people is that substance abuse truly is becoming a harsh and a grueling issue to say the least, and people are experiencing pretty serious and pretty difficult issues left and right, and it is thought that these issues will only get worse and worse if major action is not taken to do something about it very, very quickly.
  • When we see that twenty-three million Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol, we can also see that there are a lot of people who would also be heavily and severely affected by the substance abuse habits and issues of these individuals. Basically, studies show that there are about three to four or five people who are closely connected to every single drug addict in this country.  What this means for us is that people definitely do struggle pretty intensively and pretty seriously with drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, and they face some of the most difficult and upsetting of substance abuse habits and issues out there.  And what it also means is that there are over one-hundred million people who are closely and seriously affected by the substance abuse habits of their family members and loved ones.
  • There is no doubt whatsoever that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse as a general crisis and hardship is definitely something that we need to address, because people are struggling a lot with harsh issues and problems that come along with substance abuse and those types of hardships. What is for certain though is that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general is that people die from it constantly. This is to say that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general is a harsh and a debilitating problem to day the least, and it causes ongoing and debilitating issues of the very worst kind too.  It kills tens of thousands of Americans every year, and it is now the third leading cause of preventable death in this country.  What this means is that anywhere from sixty-thousand to about one-hundred thousand Americans sadly do lose their lives from drug and alcohol use and abuse every single year, creating harsh and very concerning difficulties for all involved with the issue and problem.
