Medical Detox Programs in the United States

Drug and alcohol addiction in the U.S. has changed over the years.  While the seventies and eighties saw the abuse of psychedelic drugs and hallucinogenics that, while addictive and dangerous, these drugs were not nearly as damaging or as traumatic as the drugs of today are.  Now, substances like heroin, prescription drugs, meth, and crack cocaine dominate the addiction strata of the nation, making rehabilitation and recovery a hard won battle.

The key difference between the drugs of today and the drugs of yesteryear are that today’s drugs create powerful and dangerous chemical dependencies.  Add that in with skyrocketing alcohol abuse (which also creates chemical dependence) and you have an addicted populace numbering twenty-five million that needs medical detoxification.

What is Medical Detox?

Medical detoxification is a very specific process in which one enters into an inpatient facility to get help for an addiction.  In such a center, one will be able to receive personal, daily, 24/7 medical care to assist them in coming down off of the various drug or alcohol substances and chemicals that are in their body.  This is done using supplemental medicines, nutrition, vitamin bomb therapy, sauna therapy, massage therapy, holistic practices, special dieting, and many other methods.  The end result is a person who is no longer the effect of chemical dependence to drugs and alcohol.
